Ada Apa di Dunia VILTA?

Where do we start?

Kilas Balik Liburan

While some were soaking up the sun di Negeri Seribu Pulau, others braved the cold di Negeri Kangguru with some VILTA activities to keep them occupied:

  • Monash Holiday Program: A massive success with 29 participants!

  • Independence Day Scholarship: 25 high-quality essays assessed, interviews with ten inspirational young people at the Consulate, and six students selected for tto attend Upacara Hari Kemerdekaan at the Indonesian Embassy in Canberra (16–18 August), courtesy of VILTA and KBRI. New for 2026: KJRI has invited the interviewees not selected for Canberra to attend their Hari Kemerdekaan Ceremony.

  • Sayembara Lisan: Assessors reviewed 180+ entries from Prep–Year 11. Certificates ranging from Participation to High Distinction were sent out this week - Selamat to everyone involved!

  • LTV Dinner: Kas Grant and I met with other Languages Associations, swapping ideas and discussing shared challenges across language education.

Term News & Professional Learning

  • VCE Exam Webinars: Thanks to Ibu Yvette for a fantastic session on the oral exam in Week 2! Up next, Friday 31st July: Pak Tata Survi on Listening (Part A), followed by Ibu Nani Wednesday 5th August (Section 2) and Ibu Bea (Section 3) Thursday 13th August.

  • Ngumpul Guru: Bu Liz Moore facilitated on the topic, Hari Kemerdekaan. Quality discussion followed. We're exploring shifting these to regional/metro networks to build closer local connections - we’d love your thoughts on this!

  • MUNC (Indonesian Model UN): Almost here! 100 students across 13 schools. A big thank you to Katherine Davidsen for coordinating and translating, and Ibu Yacinta Kurniasih for acting as Secretary-General.

  • Hari Kemerdekaan Poster Competition: Winners from each year level are invited to the Independence Day ceremony at the Indonesian Consulate in Melbourne. Thank you to the KJRI for their ongoing support!

  • Mock Orals: September 5th confirmed! At Carey Baptist Grammar School.

  • Resources Page: Jangan lupa to drop by the Resources tab (for members only) on the VILTA website for handy teaching materials, updates, and classroom ideas. It includes Mock Exams useful for VCE teachers looking for more than past VCAA exams.

  • Save the Date (9 Oct): Primary to Year 8 teachers—join us for a day to blow your VTLM2.0 goals out of the water, with Ibu Cathy (Comprehensible Input) at the Multicultural Centre in Melbourne. This PD is FREE for members and includes an Indonesian lunch! (Note: travel/CRT subsidies unavailable).

  • Lots of things happening with our Mitra - check out the rest of berita-e.

Stay in touch! Any thoughts on our regional networks, or ideas for future PDs? We’d love to hear from you! Send us an email or catch us at the next Ngumpul Guru.

Terima kasih for everything you do for our language community, and see you on Zoom soon!

           Salam hangat,  Jill
